While I’m on a roll with posts tonight, here is a backlog travel report of the earlier Nelson Open:

Malcolm Wong won the Over 60 Men’s Doubles (with Mark Nalder) and was runner up in the Over 60 Mixed Doubles (with Glenda Ferguson) and Over 50 Men’s Doubles (with Mark Nalder). Malcolm has now won titles at the Nelson Open for 10 consecutive years. This win takes his Nelson Open titles to 21 and is his 13th title with Mark Nalder.

This tournament was late in the season and entries were low (31). The event was held in the weekend before the NZ Open Championships. So an earlier date will probably result in more entries. The tournament report is attached.

Thanks to the organisers, Robin Knight and Michael Holmes (Tournament Controllers), Paul Op den Buysch (Xpand2play), Kay Hazeldine (Certificates and Finance) and Rebecca Nesbitt (Finance). Also to the Cafeteria Ladies, Karen Holmes, Katharine Ritchie and Noelene Wells. More photos of the players are on the TTNZ photo archives.

Over 60 Men’s Doubles finalist. Alan Alabaster, Brian Wilson (Runner up), Malcolm Wong, Mark Nalder (Winners). Malcolm and Mark won 3-2 (6-11 11-9 11-8 9-11 11-8)
