Congratulations to Yufeng Wang from all of us, he was selected by TTNZ to represent New Zealand (announcement) at the 2022 ITTF-Oceania Youth Championships! This event will be held in Melbourne Sep 5-10, be sure to give him a pat on the back next time you see him.

ITTF Oceania Championships 2022 – TTNZ Team 

The NZ team of 20 players, 4 coaches and a team manager participated in the ITTF Oceania Championships 2022 at the Eastland Shopping Centre, Melbourne, Australia from the 5th-10th Sep. The team had a 2-day training camp at the Auckland Table Tennis Association (1/2 Sep) in NZ prior to departing to Australia and then a 2-day training camp in Melbourne (3/4 Sep). 

There was a high degree of excitement and anticipation for this event considering we had not seen international play for our teams and players for a long period of time due to the pandemic. 

The four coaches and team manager were appointed on completion of a robust application and interview process. The team and support staff were:

Teams: 8 teams male and female, Open, U21, U19, U15 – All but one team finished second, with the U21 Women’s team finishing third. 

Individuals: Players were entered into multiple events across singles, doubles and mixed. The highlight being Jiayi Zhou’s silver medal in the U12 women’s singles. A number of players/combinations made semi-finals, and all made quarter final stages, unfortunately the dominant Australians took away all the other major medals!
