The Mike Flynn Memorial Award is awarded to the most improved junior in Table Tennis Wellington for the previous year also including attitude, cooperation and respect for others. We would like to congratulate Ellen Xiong as the winner of the award for 2013! As well as her excellent play and friendly attitude, her work on the Waterloo club committee has been greatly appreciated by Waterloo and beyond. Let me leave you with some recent pictures from the Summer interclub currently in progress…
Here are the first week’s result tables as xls including team and individual results to date. Bruce has draws made up for this summer’s competition but we won’t publish them in advance because we are trying with a bit of a surprise factor by having you now know who you are playing until turning up on the night!
Notices for the upcoming Summer Interclub are on their way out and details are below. Let your club contact know that you are available to play! The 7-week summer competition with 2-player teams is a good opportunity to bring in a friend or two from the past who might not have played for a few years.
In a nutshell:

5-match format to 11 with singles best of 7 and doubles best-of-5.

**** OTHER NEWS ****
We had a 4-team challenge from Manawatu on Sunday, the results were 2-2 for the teams with points wellington 28 to Manawatu 16 overall, congratulations to all players called up for this event! Manawatu won the top team (6-5) and the development team while Wellington won the two veteran team matches comfortably to pull well us ahead on overall points.
I’ll post some pictures or more detail up as I get them.
It’s 6 weeks from Oct 30 to Dec 4. The 6-team division one will be 5 weeks round-robin and then a 1v2/3v4/5v6 final night. The 8-team division two will be split into two sections for 3 weeks, then re-formed into 2 sections for the last 3 weeks (based on the results of the first split).
Encourage your friends to enter, the composite structure is a good change of pace and is also a good opportunity to people new to interclub to come in and get some mentoring.
Entries are due to Kevin Haines treasurer [at] ttwellington.org.nz or phone (04) 478 0841 by Wednesday Oct 24.
If you can’t make all 6 weeks, that is OK, we can combine you with someone else or it would be great to have you as a reserve – with the composite structure finding reserves is trickier so it’s useful to have a heap of them just in case.
The 2013 Premier final was played in front of a number of spectators who were treated to an arm wrestle of a contest which went to the last match. Most matches provided opportunities for both teams to win and the tension of the occasion created the atmosphere it deserved.
Congratulations to both teams on their efforts, particularly to Belmont Bang for their victory and the retention of the Tommy Williams Trophy.
Division 1: Waterloo Wasps beat Empire Elders
Division 2: Waterloo Whales beat Empire Elms
Division 3: Waterloo Whippets beat Empire Eagles
Congratulations to all winners and the runners-up too!
There are details of including all those who played for these (and the other) teams during all of premier or the Series 2 division grades here.
Here are some pictures from Wednesday (send me more to see them up here) and I’ll update the left-to-right names once I confirm them!
On a totally separate note, we received a request to pass on a message about 15 year-old Ola Ratka from Canterbury who has been training in South Korea (for 6 months) and plans to complete in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China. He father Piotr has applied for a AMP scholarship including a “People Choice” scholarship – every vote counts to try and win it so visit here for details!
I’ve been accumulating a pile of recent interclub pictures from Wednesday nights so here they are. Anyone on Tuesdays feel free to forward pictures to me at secretary[at]ttwellington.org.nz!
I’ll lead off though with Waterloo Wasps with their gold medals from Series 1: Waterloo 2013 InterclubJoola Series 1 Division 1 Winners: Win Nguyen, Scott Higham, Sean Hanson
